How to CLEAN UP your social media accounts.

Learn how to clean up your Facebook and Instagram accounts for maximum efficiency! 5 key tips to optimize your presence on social media. 5 tasks, 5 days, 5 minutes a day.

You can do this.

In January I decided it was a good time to start fresh. Pantry clean up, computer clean up and social media accounts clean up. It might seem like unnecessary extra work, but critically reviewing your website and online presence is a good way to get a feel for what others are seeing.

BEFORE WE START. ASK FOR FEEDBACK AND DO A COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS

Have a friend visit your website and accounts and ask them for feedback. Can they easily maneuver through your website and find within 10 seconds what you do and how to get ahold of you?

Do a competitive analysis. What are the top players in your industry posting on their accounts? What do their websites look like? What type of content are people engaging with the most? How do you compare? Take notes!

On Instagram, I posted a series of five key things you can do to refresh your accounts. One task a day. You can do this. Check it out here: Instagram/catherineaird

DAY 1 TIP 1
REVIEW DEAD ACCOUNTS AND PASSWORDS 📕

  1. Make a list of all your social media accounts and see if there are any that are completely unused – Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, LinkedIn, Twitter…⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
  2. If you do not plan on posting on Twitter or LinkedIn in the near future, do a post sending people to the accounts that you WILL be active on, and give them a call to action on how to get ahold of you: email, website, phone number etc.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
  3. 💥while you are at it, write down your logins and passwords on a Google sheet or notebook.

DAY 2 TIP 2
CLEAN UP YOUR INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT 🧼

⚡️ New year, new week, good time to clean up your Instagram account. Delete or archive posts that are not really relevant or don’t fit the look and feel you are going for.

Not sure about deleting? Archive!

Build a strategy around your highlight folders.

DAY 3 TIP 3
CLEAN UP YOUR FACEBOOK BUSINESS PAGE

Here’s how. You want to review the following TODAY. It might SAVE you BIG 💰🤑 !

1. Is your cover image up to date and does it have a description with a call to action?
2. Have you made a post lately? Post one, a good one 😉
3. Check your messages and notifications
4. Make sure you don’t have old ads running, costing you MONEY
5. Review your insights, identify your 🦄 & donkeys!

DAY 4 TIP 4
LEARN HOW TO CLEAN UP & ORGANIZED YOUR 184,975,634,875,638 PHOTOS!  🤳🏿👩‍👧‍👦 📸✨📽

If you are like me, you take photos, videos, and screenshots of pretty much everything and your phone is at max capacity and everything is all over the place. I try once in a while to delete some but there are about 3,000 left.

THEN I found how to deal with them from my computer and SYNC it all by magic to my iPad (that I use for video editing) and it made me feel like a superhero. 🦸‍♀

I have a video tutorial for Google photos too for you, little Android device people you. DM me for the link.

DAY 5 TIP 5
INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT DETOX! FOLLOW PEOPLE WHO MATTER.

“To start cleaning your Instagram newsfeed, jump on over to your Instagram profile and click on the following number.

From here you’ll see a list of all the people you follow, as well as hashtags. You can search for specific profiles that you know you don’t want to see anymore. Or you can simply scroll through the list to find people to unfollow.

One of my rules of thumb is quite simple. If I go through the list and don’t even recognize the username of someone on my ‘following’ list, I probably don’t care too much about missing out on their content anyway!

If you need a bit of a memory jog to remind yourself what type of content someone shares, do this: Click on their username and go over to their grid for a poke around. If you like what you see, keep following them.

If there is an account that you really would rather not see content from in your newsfeed (but unfollowing them would lead to some awkward conversations) you can use Instagram’s ‘mute’ option.

If you do happen to unfollow someone on Instagram and they find out and call you out on it, simply be honest with them. Share that you are simplifying your life this year. Explain you are starting a path towards ‘digital minimalism’. You may even want to encourage them to go through the list of who they are following too!” ~ Christy Lawrence*
